The Challenge

The vision for Rancho Almasomos was ambitious and multi-layered.

  • A biodynamic farm pursuing Arizona’s first certification

  • A regenerative agritourism destination

  • A hospitality experience centered on food, land, and education

  • A long-horizon venture designed to evolve over decades

The challenge was not execution — it was clarity. The project required a cohesive framework to align philosophy, architecture, agriculture, and future business development into a single, intelligible vision.

Overview

Rancho Almasomos is a future-facing agritourism destination rooted in biodynamic farming, ecological stewardship, and experiential hospitality. Set on 131 acres of greenbelt land in Sedona, Arizona, the project reimagines how agriculture, architecture, and human experience can coexist. Hospitality is offered with minimal intervention to the land.

Indigo partnered with key stakeholders during the earliest conceptual phase to define the foundational brand, narrative, and long-term vision — shaping how the project would be understood, developed, and experienced over time.

Architectural Vision

Rancho Almasomos is designed in collaboration with Mattaforma, a New York–based architecture and design practice known for reframing the built environment as a medium for planetary equity.

Mattaforma’s work blends ecological intelligence with poetic design. Their approach prioritizes systems that work with the land rather than against it. Architecture is deliberately restrained, allowing agriculture, ecology, and human experience to take the lead.

Here, the ecosystem itself becomes the attraction.

Our role and approach

Indigo was engaged during the conceptual phase to lead foundational brand strategy before launch, marketing, or execution.

Working closely with stakeholders, Indigo:

  • Defined the core vision, positioning, and long-term intent

  • Established the brand narrative and emotional thesis (Transformation from soil to soul)

  • Developed a complete visual identity system and voice framework

  • Translated complex ecological and architectural ideas into human, accessible storytelling

  • Created foundational collateral to support early communication, partnerships, and community engagement

Indigo’s process proved instrumental not only for brand development, but also as a business-development tool. It clarified decisions, aligned stakeholders, and reduced ambiguity at a critical early stage.

Beyond the ranch

The clarity and utility of Indigo’s work led to expanded collaboration beyond the ranch itself. Indigo was subsequently engaged to support early conceptual thinking for Petrichor, the parent company envisioned to steward Rancho Almasomos and future ventures under a shared philosophical and strategic umbrella.

Why This Work Matters

Rancho Almasomos sits at the intersection of agritourism, biodynamic farming, and experiential hospitality.

Rather than positioning food as an amenity, the project makes agriculture the experience itself. It is an experience that passes through the body, not just the eyes.

The Bigger Idea

By treating Rancho Almasomos as a long-horizon venture rather than a single destination, Indigo helped establish a foundation designed to guide years of thoughtful growth.

This work reflects Indigo’s ability to operate upstream. The studio partners with founders, architects, and visionaries to bring clarity, structure, and meaning to complex ideas at their earliest and most consequential stage.
